Injection Molding for Military and Defense Applications

Forum Plastics is pleased to announce that our business and manufacturing processes are now International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliant. This compliance will allow us to support customers in the military, aerospace, and defense sectors, while continuing to provide industry-leading expertise in the medical, electronics, and general manufacturing industries.

What is ITAR?

ITAR is a federal regulation that restricts access to defense and military technologies, services, and goods — as specified in the United States Munitions List (USML) — only to U.S. citizens or those who have special authorization. Enforced by the Directorate of the Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) in the U.S. State Department, its purpose is to ensure national security by keeping sensitive technical data from falling into the hands of foreign nationals.

All third-party supply chain vendors and contractors involved in the manufacture, sale, and distribution of defense-related materials and services must also be ITAR-compliant, including wholesalers, distributors, and technology providers. In addition to the actual military goods and services, ITAR applies to paper document storage and transfer, as well as online technical data and digital communications between all parties.

Why ITAR Registration?

For nearly three decades, Forum Plastics has successfully specialized in the manufacturing precision of injection-molded components for the medical, surgical, industrial, electronics, and other key markets. As our capabilities continue to expand, we remain committed to adapting and innovating to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

Over the years, our sales team has received inquiries regarding Forum’s ability to provide ITAR-regulated products. With growing market interest and our commitment to support our expanding client base, Forum initiated the pursuit of ITAR registration. Given the company’s successful completion of the requirements for registration, we are now qualified to participate in relevant government agency proposals or work under contractors in the defense, aerospace, and military sector to produce injection-molded components and assemblies. Given Forum’s successful completion of the requirements for registration, we are now qualified to participate in relevant government agency proposals or work under contractors in the defense, aerospace, and military sector to produce injection-molded components and assemblies.

“Although this is a relatively new vertical strategy for Forum Plastics, we offer 30 years of experience in the design and fabrication of highly complex, precision injection molded parts,” says Jose Mosello, Forum’s Director of Quality Assurance. “Forum has a reputation for consistent, high-quality and flawless attention to detail. We look forward to meeting the needs of federal defense agencies and contractors while continuing to exceed client expectations.”

Forum Plastics’ ITAR Compliance

Due to the stringent criteria of ITAR regulations, Forum’s facilities, offices, and data management have undergone a rigorous evaluation and enhanced security measures in order to establish compliance. As a result, all of our business and manufacturing processes have successfully been evaluated against this criterion and now will benefit all of our industry clients through an even more robust security system.

As a part of this approval process, Forum has generated a new, comprehensive ITAR compliance manual, which includes specific procedures that must be followed by each department to maintain security for ITAR projects. We have instituted special training to help new and existing employees understand how to adhere to our internal ITAR guidelines in every area of their jobs.

Only U.S. citizens are assigned to work with ITAR customers, with client and supplier communications restricted to secure portals and encrypted messaging platforms. Forum has reached out to its vendors, wholesalers, and service providers requesting ITAR compliance information from each organization.

In addition, we have instituted high-security, ITAR-compliant storage, management, and collaboration solutions to constantly monitor and prevent breaches of sensitive technical data for both paper and digital communications.

Periodic audits and reviews will be conducted to monitor ITAR compliance in every department.

How Does ITAR Benefit Clients?

Current Forum Plastics customers may notice enhanced protective features in our company communications to further heighten a level of assuredness that their IP and trade secrets remain confidential. Additionally, new defense-related clients will appreciate Forum’s uncompromising commitment to excellence in every product we make, from computer-aided design to mold fabrication to precise component manufacturing, regardless of the part complexity.

Recognizing that this level of security and confidential maintenance is critical to multiple industries in which Forum is associated, we are proud to provide this level of trust to all of our multi-industry clients. We offer assurance that all classified data is handled with advanced physical and digital security measures to keep it secure.

With our state-of-the-art facility, world-class engineering solutions, ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications, and newly received ITAR registration, Forum has the capabilities to supply a wide range of military and aerospace products, such as components for weaponry, electronics, vehicle and aircraft engines, special equipment, in addition to our current medical, industrial and electronic product focus arenas.
